Blogs and wikis are platforms of social software designed to facilitate personal interactions over computer networks. Blogs are a website where a single owner can post journal like entries. Only the author or administrators of the blog may create new posts and make changes, but all viewers can comment. They are displayed in reverse chronological order and some examples of blogs include online diaries, travel lows, and news columns. A wiki is a set of web pages comprising of content that can be edited by multiple users. The content is usually written collaboratively by a group to inform about a specific topic and the most well-known example of a wiki is the Wikipedia free online encyclopedia. Users of wikis may add or remove any content of their choice, which can override another person's contribution. Influence of Social Media on Interpersonal Communication Social media has impacted various aspects of our lives and has a huge influence on how we engage with one another. In our fast-paced world, people are constantly looking for ways to save time. The growth of digitalization has caused a shift in the way we communicate with each other and I will touch upon whether or not the use of social media platforms has a positive or negative effect on society. With the various methods of virtual communications available, the way we engage with others are changing as we experience less face-to-face interactions. We can now have conversations with someone halfway around the world, but the relationships we form through social media tend to have weaker ties.
